Sønderho Old Bird Cage is a large, landscaped trap consisting of a pond with 6 trapping channels, which was originally used to catch wild ducks for food. Today, the birdhouse is used as a living museum.
As the only place in Denmark, four birdcages were built on Fanø during that time, two of which were in use until 1931, when the use of birdcages for the capture of ducks for human consumption was banned. From 1960 to 1990, Sønderho Old Bird Cage was used by the Wild Biological Institute for the ringing of ducks.
The bird's nest is always open - please remember to close the door. Admission is free.
