The chamber lock

Take your camera on a trip to a place where the special nature of the Wadden Sea can be experienced up close.

At the mouth of the Ribe Å lies the Chamber lock. The chamber lock was built in the year 1912 together with the dike that protects the land behind it from flooding. The lock was built after several storm surges, where the water level was more than 4 meters higher than normal Ribe. The lock has two sets of gates of approx. 2 metres, which balances the tide difference and can bring ships from one water level to another, so that they can sail on, either into the stream or out into the Wadden Sea.

This is therefore a completely obvious place to photograph. An ideal spot to take pictures is up in the middle of the bridge. Here, on the one hand, you can see the wonderful ford with a lot of wildlife and activity from smaller ships that will pass the lock. If you turn around, you can see how in the flat Martian landscape Ribe To wind as far as the eye can see. Around the lock, there are small holiday homes next to the stream, which give a completely idyllic atmosphere.

The chamber lock is also ideal for bird photographers. Go for a walk on the dyke, along the stream or in the marsh landscape and take a closer look at the bird life, which is special to the area. Several times a year you can be lucky to catch the phenomenon Black Sun near the Chamber Lock, where thousands of starlings gather in large flocks and make some very fascinating formations in the sky.

It is recommended to visit the place at sunset, when sea and sky become one. The colors of the sunset are reflected in the water in a beautiful way.

Parking can be done next to the lock, from where you can walk around the area.
